TAN PREP
exfoliate
Exfoliating before a spray tan is crucial for achieving a smooth and even tan. By removing dead skin cells, you help the tanning solution adhere better and prevent uneven patches. It's important to use a gentle exfoliating scrub or mitt to avoid irritation, as harsh exfoliants can damage your skin. Also, make sure to remove any old tan residue; if it’s left behind, it could cause streaks or uneven coloring once the new tan is applied. Exfoliating 24-48 hours before your appointment gives your skin time to settle, ensuring the best results.
Clothing
After a spray tan, loose, dark-colored clothing helps avoid staining and reduces the chances of irritating or rubbing off the tan. Tight clothing can cause streaks or uneven spots because of friction. Opting for loose, comfortable outfits like flowy dresses, oversized t-shirts, or loose pants ensures that the tan stays intact and develops evenly. Plus, dark colors are the best at masking any potential stains.
Hair Removal
Shaving or waxing should be done at least 24 hours before your spray tan appointment. This gives your skin time to recover from any irritation or redness caused by hair removal. If you shave or wax right before your tan, the solution might not go on evenly because the skin could still be sensitive. By waiting a full day, you'll help ensure a smoother, more even tan, and avoid potential blotchiness in areas where your skin may have been irritated.
remove makeup & deodorant
Before your spray tan session, it's essential to remove all makeup, deodorant, and any other skincare products. These can create a barrier on your skin, interfering with the absorption and development of the tanning solution. Even traces of makeup or deodorant can lead to uneven areas or streaks. Cleansing your skin thoroughly ensures the tanning solution adheres properly, giving you the best, most even results.
what to avoid
On the day of your spray tan, it's important to avoid using moisturisers, lotions, oils, or perfumes. These products can create a barrier on your skin that prevents the tanning solution from properly absorbing and developing. Even small amounts of lotion or oil can interfere with how evenly the tan sets. To get the best results, ensure your skin is clean, dry, and free of any products before your appointment.
footwear and hairwear
Bringing loose footwear is important to avoid any friction or pressure on your freshly applied tan. Flip-flops or open-toed shoes are ideal since they allow your tan to dry without rubbing against your skin. A hair tie is also a smart move—keeping your hair off your shoulders will prevent it from touching your tan and ensure you stay comfortable while waiting for it to develop. These little preparations will help keep your tan looking flawless!

Tanning process
consultation
First, you’ll discuss your goals for the tan. You’ll talk about how dark you want the tan to be and any other preferences.
the tan
Once you’re ready, you’ll step into the tan tent and stand on sticky feet (to keep the tan off the soles of your feet). The spray tan mist will feel cold, and it’ll take about 10-15 minutes to complete. The technician will ensure that your entire body is tanned and will blend out any areas as needed.
preparation
You’ll be shown to the tan room, where you'll find everything you need, including barrier cream, hair nets, refresher wipes, and disposable G-strings. You’ll have a few minutes to get undressed, use the refresher wipe for your underarms or any other areas, apply barrier cream where needed, and put on your hairnet.
drying and dressing
After the tan is done, you’ll be given a hose to dry yourself off. The technician will step out of the room while you get dressed and ensure you’re comfortable before you leave.
undergarments
You can wear whatever underwear you prefer, or you can opt for the disposable G-string if you’d like.
aftercare
Finally, before you leave, you’ll be handed a spray tan aftercare card. This will include important tips on how to take care of your tan, such as avoiding water for a set period, moisturizing regularly, and other helpful instructions to ensure your tan lasts as long as possible.

Avoid Water and Sweating
For the first few hours after your spray tan, avoid any water exposure, including swimming, showering, or sweating excessively. If the water hits the tan before it's ready to be rinsed, it can interfere with the development of the tan and may cause streaks or uneven fading. It's important to let the tan fully develop before getting wet to ensure a smooth, even result.
Don’t Shave or Wax Immediately
Avoid shaving or waxing your skin within the first 24 hours after your spray tan. These activities can remove layers of your skin, which can cause your tan to fade unevenly.
Wait Before Showering
Depending on the solution used, I typically recommend waiting at least 2 hours before showering. This gives the tan enough time to properly develop. Showering too soon can interfere with the tanning process, leading to uneven results or fading. The longer you wait, the more even and long-lasting your tan will be!
Avoid Exfoliating for Several Days
Exfoliating too soon after your tan can cause it to fade unevenly. Wait until the tan starts to naturally fade before exfoliating. Avoid using products that contain retinol, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or other harsh exfoliants, as they can break down the tan more quickly.
Shower Carefully
When you do shower, use lukewarm water, not hot, to avoid stripping the tan. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh exfoliants on your skin. after your shower, Gently pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing.
Moisturise Regularly
Hydrated skin holds the tan longer. Use a good moisturiser daily to keep your skin soft and smooth. Avoid products with alcohol or heavy fragrances, as they can dry out the skin and cause the tan to fade faster.
